DIGBMX July/August 2008

mco-dig-nigel.jpgmco-maxime-dig.jpgFor issue number 65 DIG BMX went to China where they met up with Mirraco riders Nigel Sylvester, Mike Spinner and Maxime Charveron in a Nike Lightning Bolts art show trip. Maxime gets a photo from the “Demo” in China and Nigel will be featured in the next issue that will come out in September.

Mirraco UK took care of the back cover (featuring Mike Spinner). Also the Mirraco UK visit gets covered with pics of the team on an escalator in the underground, one rider taking a leak against a wall, a Banksy shot and some riding photos. Thanks to Dig for the love. Go find it at your local bookstore or hit up your favorite favorite BMX shop for a copy of it.

A little modification to a Mirraco Signature bike

Monday, May 26th, 2008

mco-signature-lowrider.jpgWhen you buy a bike, it’s all yours. You can do with it what you want. Gabe FM made “a few” modifications to his Mirraco Signature bike and likes it a lot.

Sure looks different from the way he bought it in the shop but again, there are no restrictions on what to do with it. Enjoy the ride.

Mirraco team makes it to England. Guettler joins the crew.

mco-trip1-france.jpgA two hour plane ride brought the Mirraco team to London, England for a little tream trip. It is the first time in England for a few of the guys and driving on the left hand side of the road is adds to the excitement.

mco-trip2-uk.jpgOn the way to the hotel we stopped to check out Brixton skatepark and surprised the locals who were looking at Dave Mirra, Ryan Guettler, Mike Spinner, Dave Rytell and Mike Laird looking in from behind the fence. The plan is to go back for a session if we can make it in (the park is being fixed at the moment). Southbank is up next (in the afternoon) before checking out the Big Ben and other touristy stuff.

Check back in again for more updates from the road and come ride with us.

Mirraco riders rip it up in Montpellier

mco-laird2.jpgWith the biggest crowd in contest history watching the park finals things were heating up on Sunday night during the park finals. 21 riders made the cut and Mirraco was well represented. Mike Laird finished 10th and pulled the sweetest no-handed 360 ever.

Dave Mirra wasn’t feeling it but did not leave without giving the crowd what they came to see. Dave has the 360 no-handed backflip wired and pulled another one as his “Last Trick” while the people were sreaming as loud as they could. Having thousands of people watching a BMX contest is awesome.

mco-daniel.jpgMaxime Charveron finished 7th after qualifying in 18th. That means he did well in finals. His handplants were unique as well as his bikeflip on the quarter.

3rd place was for Alessandro Barbero, the Italian pulled everything he wanted to do and was stoked. 2nd place went to Mike Spinner who pulled a 1080 as his “Last Trick”, his first one in Europe. Daniel Dhers finished first.

Mirraco riders make park finals in France.

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

mco-spinner2.jpgWith 68 Pro riders entering the FISE in France it was tough to make the 20 people cut. The level of riding is so high these days that the difference between making it and not making the finals is tiny. Dave Rytell entered his first contest since he got picked up by Mirraco a few years ago at the Local Exposure tour and was the only Mirraco rider to not make the pro finals.

Maxime Charveron didn’t have the best run he’s ever had so there’s room for improvement there. Mike Laird lost his bike over the fence and it fell into the water. He picked up Mirra’s ride and pulled every trick he wanted to do on it. Good enough for 16th place in qualifying. Dave Mirra placed fifth and made his presence known by pulling the no-handed-360-backflip first try. The crowd (an estimated 100.000 total) went nuts. Alessandro “Trick machine” Barbero did his program and used the riding he did recently at Woodward to his advantage. 3rd in qualifying went to Mike Spinner. This should make for an interesting final round tonight.

Check back soon for an update.

Mirraco representing in France at the FISE

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

mco-mirra-helmet.jpgThe Mirraco posse is big over in Montpellier, France for the 12th edition of the Festival Des Sports Extremes (FISE). Not only did the riders show up, the bikes made it as well which is good news. Dave Mirra is here, Mike Spinner, Dave Rytell, Mike Laird, Maxime Charveron, Alessandro Barbero and Ryan Guettler is coming in on Sunday night after finishing up a show in Napels, Italy for one of his co-sponsors.

mco-laird.jpgHe will join the rest of the crew to go to England on Monday for a little trip over there. Here are a few photos of the Mirraco riders for viewing pleasure and to get an idea of what’s going on in the South of France at the moment. A big thanks to Mirraco Germany (Marc von Varel) and Mirraco UK (Paul Lonsdale) for coming out. Check back in for more.
