Dew Tour continues in Portland

Friday, August 22nd, 2008
mco-guettler-portland.jpgThe Dew Tour series continued with the Dirt qualifying competition on Thursday where Mirraco rider Ryan Guettler finished second in a strong field of invited riders. The top 9 from qualifying meet up with last year’s top three for an amazing battle. Let’s hope Ryan does great there too. If not in Dirt, Ryan will also ride the Park competition just like Dave Mirra, Alessandro Barbero and Mike Laird who received a wildcard. Dirt Qualifying Results (Top 9 Move to Finals): 1. Alin Moldovan, Romanian Mirraco rider, wins first national street BMX contest!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008
mco-alin1.jpgLast weekend, in Sibiu, the cultural heart of Transylvania, the crème de la crème of romanian BMX-ers gathered for the scene’s first street BMX contest, under the X-Cup label. The venue of the event was the marvellous Sub Arini park of the city, where the organizers prepared a delicious street spot, containing various stairsets, some rails, different length ledges and an array of gaps. More than 1000 specatators came to witness what was about to become an amazing competition with a vast range of tricks, some of them never seen before in Romania. mco-alin2.jpgMirraco rider Alin Moldovan stood out of the crowd and destroyed the entire location properly: perfect 360 gap over the small ledge at the dome, tailwhip and 180 barspin upwards off the long ledge, feeble to barspin-out at the big grindbox and various other tech-combos worth mentioning. Alin also pulled what would’ve been the best line of the contest, with a bunnyhop barspin over the marker-tape, a 360 over the following 9-set, manual down the aforementioned ledge and a bunnyhop to tailwhip at the smaller ledge, by the streetrail. Speaking of the streetrail, Alin owned it, by double peg grinding it second-try, and left it abused, as he should. Mr. Moldovan decided it was time to spice things up and raise the bar, so he stuck a pretty clean tailwhip at the impressive 9-set, which gave fellow riders some trouble, and shut down the competition hereby. Alin was crowned winner of the day, as expected, and walked away with the prizemoney and his friendly smile, probably thinking about the party that was due that night. With friendly greetings from Romania, Maximilian Munteanu Romanian Street Movie

Dave Mirra wins Bronze in Rally at X-Games 14

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008
mco-dave-rally-bronze.jpg Perhaps one of the most unexpected occurrences in the Rally Super Special final at X-Games 14 was Dave Mirra tying for bronze with Ken Block. Both qualified into the bronze medal match, but both experienced mechanical problems that kept both of them from driving in the match. A tie was declared which subsequently awarded Mirra his 23rd X Games medal, a seemingly untouchable record for most medals ever won at X Games. 4th for Ryan Guettler at SuperPark

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008
mco-guettler-superpark-fina.jpgThe SuperPark finals at the X-Games started with 10 people. 5 of them made it to the superfinal and Ryan Guettler was one of them. Making it this far is an accomplishment. Unfortunately for Ryan some of his wild moves did not work out the way he planned it. The 1080 into the deep end got stopped before he completed the third full rotation and the frontflip into the spine would have been sweet. Ryan ended up on place four, just missing out on the medals. Dave Mirra wins silver at Big Air event!

Friday, August 1st, 2008
mco-big-air-dave.jpgBMX history was in the making tonight at the Big Air event over at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles as the 7 invited riders stepped onto the roll-in of the Big Air ramp set-up. With the “short” gap being 50 feet long and the long gap being 70 feet is was going to make for some serious entertainment before they his the giant quarterpipe at the end. Dave Mirra was one of the invited riders and the most decorated X-Games athlete added another medal to his extensive list of accomplishments. Dave performed his 360 no-handed backflip over the 50-footer and followed that up with an awesome 11 feet high tailwhip flair on the quarterpipe. Serious madness.
