Day 137 in London, lol, no just joking………

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

mco-london-rytell-spinner.jpgSo the last day, of the trip for London at least, and tomorrow is my long trek to China ha ha ha. Today Rytell and I made it out to a cool bike shop. It was an unannounced visit and somehow a few people found out we were coming and showed up.

Hung out there for a bit. I messed around in the parking lot just doing bunny hop whips and what not and I did a half cab and landed wrong and busted out 3 spokes. I didn’t even know how that happened. Oh well, I’ll just fix it when I’m in China.

Spinner update from London

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

mco-4-Paul-Lonsdale.jpg So today is a day that I am super psyched on. Paul Lonsdale (in charge of a bunch of stuff for Mirraco in the UK, he’s awesome!) took me sight seeing. We went to a Gallery of amazing Paintings then we went on the Big Eye in London which looks like a giant Ferris wheel lol It took about a half hour just to get around the whole thing but it was awesome because you can see all of London and Big Ben.

mco-4-Mike-Spinner-London-2.jpgThen we walked around and watched a mime (Charlie Chaplin) some break dancers and A magician put on shows trying to make some money. It was awesome. Tomorrow I think we will check out some stores that carry Mirraco near the coast and do some riding. So till tomorrow. PEACE!

Mirraco team riders in sunny London

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

mco-wed-sq.jpgAfter being on the road for over a week it was time for a mellow day. With beautiful weather the Mirraco riders took the tube (underground) to go downtown London. The place was hectic today with lots of people about. After some brunch at an Italian place the crew split up to do some shopping.

mco-wed-guettler-vans-store.jpgThe Vans store on Carnaby street had some cool stuff and there were more shops to check out. All good things come to an end and Guettler, Laird, and Mirra checked in at a hotel closer to the airport so they won’t be stuck in London traffic in the morning. Dave Rytell has extended his stay in London with a few more days (till Saturday) as he likes it here.

mco-wed-rytell-tube.jpgAnother session is coming up in a few minutes with Mike Spinner who is here for a few more days as well before taking off to China for a Nike gig. Ricky Adam has been taking photos and will be on the bike with them looking for some spots to ride.

Good luck to all of them.

Mirraco team riders at Southbank. Another gold bike?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

mco3-laird-at-Southbank-180.jpgFrom Brixton we made it to the London Eye and managed to park the two vehicles right at the Southbank. It’s another legendary spot to ride and with the graffiti everywhere it looks more ghetto than the Brixton park but it really isn’t. On the sunny day people walked by while Dave, Dave, Mike, Mike and Ryan were looking for things to do. The spot was well liked by everyone on the team.

mco3-golden-bike-owners.jpgmco-trip2-rytell3.jpgMirra kept on working on the “Complete Package” and Mike Laird got into it by doing rad 180 barspins out of the bank and huge wallrides and the graffitied wall. Dave Rytell was in his element doing 180-barspins to flat down the stairs, nosewheelies everywhere and newschool tuck no-handers on his brakeless Fivestar. On his first trip to the UK he also did a feeble on a massive rail on the back of the Southbank. Spinner shot a sequence with Sean Hargraves which was a 540 out of the bank to halfcab whip, pulled perfectly. Guettler pressed the street mode button and did fakie wallrides, footjams and more of that stuff. Some rode their bikes back to the hotel, some took the Vectra and got a flat and the other car was picked up from the Vehicle impound place in exchange of a payment of 260 British Pounds! They ain’t messing around in London.

mco-trip2-laird.jpgmco3-Mirra-and-Guettler-fak.jpgMore concrete parks are on the program for today. If you ride in London, you might just run into the Mirraco crew on their Complete Package trip.

The Complete Package Mirraco trip

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

mco-trip2-guettler-sq.jpgThe Mirraco trip in the UK started off with a blue sky. This is very unlikely in the UK but nobody was complaining. One of the cars got impounded so we decided to cramp 10 people, the camera gear and all the bikes into two cars and worry about the other Vauxhall 2.5 TDi later. We made it back to the Stockwell concrete skatepark and jumped the fence. The police drove by on several occasions and stopped twice but they did not kick us out but asked if we had seen anybody being stabbed at the park in the last few hours. We had not and were allowed to continue with the session.

mco-trip2-mirra.jpgmco-trip2-rytell.jpgDave Rytell was loving it and rode the new section of the park very well. You can say he “shredded” if that sounds any better. Dave Mirra was working on new variations of the “Complete Package” and he was styling them at the end of the session. Mike Spinner did some high bunnyhop tailwhips while just goofing around, he can spin and whip anything. The park had an old section (built in the seventies) which had some rollers that were used for jumps and some cruising around. Rytell actually found a way to transfer between two sets which was cool. The session was wrapped up and after a Subway lunch we got ten people in the two vehicles again to get to the next spot: Southbank.

Mirraco team makes it to England. Guettler joins the crew.

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

mco-trip1-france.jpgA two hour plane ride brought the Mirraco team to London, England for a little tream trip. It is the first time in England for a few of the guys and driving on the left hand side of the road is adds to the excitement.

mco-trip2-uk.jpgOn the way to the hotel we stopped to check out Brixton skatepark and surprised the locals who were looking at Dave Mirra, Ryan Guettler, Mike Spinner, Dave Rytell and Mike Laird looking in from behind the fence. The plan is to go back for a session if we can make it in (the park is being fixed at the moment). Southbank is up next (in the afternoon) before checking out the Big Ben and other touristy stuff.

Check back in again for more updates from the road and come ride with us.

Mirraco riders rip it up in Montpellier

Monday, May 5th, 2008

mco-laird2.jpgWith the biggest crowd in contest history watching the park finals things were heating up on Sunday night during the park finals. 21 riders made the cut and Mirraco was well represented. Mike Laird finished 10th and pulled the sweetest no-handed 360 ever.

Dave Mirra wasn’t feeling it but did not leave without giving the crowd what they came to see. Dave has the 360 no-handed backflip wired and pulled another one as his “Last Trick” while the people were sreaming as loud as they could. Having thousands of people watching a BMX contest is awesome.

mco-daniel.jpgMaxime Charveron finished 7th after qualifying in 18th. That means he did well in finals. His handplants were unique as well as his bikeflip on the quarter.

3rd place was for Alessandro Barbero, the Italian pulled everything he wanted to do and was stoked. 2nd place went to Mike Spinner who pulled a 1080 as his “Last Trick”, his first one in Europe. Daniel Dhers finished first.
