Bustin’ balls in Austin, Texas.

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

mco-tx-rytell_crash_2.jpgLast weekend, we packed up Nigel Sylvester, Dave Rytell, MirracoFlo rider Drew Hosselton, Wade Young on video and myself on the Canon and headed out to Austin for some innocent BMX fun…well, that was the plan anyway. It was a 2 day trip so the plan was to hit up as many spots as possible to shoot some new ads and vids.

Day 1: First spot in downtown Austin was a rail behind a hotel that was a bust in about 2.5 minutes. Second spot was a ridiculous hop to ledge to 15 foot carry with a 15 foot drop over a couple of concrete planters that Rytell threw a huge clean 360 over and down. Look for this in an upcoming ad…stupid ridiculous. Third spot was to the bike shop to fix a flat on Rytell’s bike where we found a cool double kink rail in a park to the southwest of the city. That was cool for about 30 minutes until it became a bust. Fourth spot was a really cool angled wall to bridge to grass slope setup where both Rytell and Drew threw some pretty cool stuff which again, you will see in future Mirraco ads. mco-tx-nigel_crash_1.jpgFifth spot was a red flat rail where Nigel found his game. Sixth spot was behind the Four Seasons hotel where once again Rytell did what Rytell does. Crazy speed jump down 3 separate really steep 10-stair sets to 360 off a 5 stair set to tailwhip to super steep hillside landing with trees….and no brakes…Seventh spot was the the University of TX. Bad idea……baaaaaaaaaad idea (damn you Losey!!) ….Eighth spot, jail. More on that some other time….end of day one.

mco-tx-rytell_crash_1.jpgDay 2: First spot was the bonding office, wasn’t that good really, I can’t recommend it. Second and final spot was the 9th street trails. I only wish we had more time to spend there. This place rules and the locals do an amazing job of keeping the place top notch. Big hits, small hits, dirt quarterpipe type jump that Rytell was flairing, transition to tree, lots of cool stuff. It’s a must go if you hit up Austin, but respect the locals since they’re the ones doing all the work to make and keep that place the legend that it has become.

So, in the end, I would say Austin is a pretty cool city, but it can be and in our case was a bust. The only advice I have is that if you run from the law, you dang well better make sure you get away…and by all means, don’t ever go there if you’re from NY.

Even the big $$$ pros crash. Here’s some proof. Enjoy.

Barbero gets second in Latvian contest

Monday, February 18th, 2008

mco-ale-latvia.jpgWindshield wipers, 3-double whips and 3-whips in both directions over the fun box helped Mirraco rider Alessandro Barbero get 2nd place at the Ride It Winterjam in Riga, Latvia yesterday. According to Alessandro, who had been out for three months due to a shoulder injury, he was riding at 80%. The Italian was totally happy with his riding and the result.

Now it’s back to shoveling snow as his outdoor park in Italy is covered in 4 feet of that white stuff. The park is under construction but he hopes to get it finished in May this year. But before that Alessandro will spend a good month at Camp Woodward (East) and is looking forward to the trip to Greenville.

Stay informed. Visit: www.alessandrobarbero.com

Back on the bike after 3 months off

Monday, February 18th, 2008

mco-ald-td-flair.jpg I mco-ald-d-whip.jpgtook a ride up to Haven skatepark in Connecticut to ride with some good friends. After being off the Mirraco blend for 3 months I came right back into the groove, landing flair turn downs, doublewhips and you name it at the park.

Feels so good to ride again and hang out with my buddies.

M3 BLACK LABEL BEHIND BARS

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

mco-behindbars.jpgAt Mirraco a handlebar is not just a handlebar. The feel of your bars needs to be right as it influences the way your bike rides in a big way. The Behind Bars did not get the Black label tag for free.

The Cr-mo had to go through a 13 butted process to keep the strength up and the weight down. It went in the oven after being TIG welded. Even the crossbar was butted and then the bars were treated with an electroplate black color. Lovers of big bars should check out the eight inch rise size. Others can choose between the 7.0″ and the 7.5″ rise.

A handlebar is not just a handlebar. Try the M3 BLACK LABEL BEHIND BARS.

mco-guettler-fueltv.jpgThe 2.22.08 Fuel TV show is too hot to handle with guest host Chris Pastras steaming up the habit. Plus, he’s a power house on the dirt and in the park, BMX ripper Ryan Guettler is back in the studio. And, Pinback is in the Habit with their relaxing, melodic sounds – just kidding, they’re going to blow out your ears and minds.

Ryan Guettler’s sponsors include: MirraCo, Vans, Alpinestars, Monster Energy drink, Colony Parts, Boost Mobile, Protec Helmets, and Kicker Speakers.

They will tear up 2008!

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

mco-maxime-2008.jpgDesillusion magazine over in France has an article about 4 guys under 20 years old who will tear it up in 2008. The BMX guy in the article is Mirraco rider Maxime Charveron from Brignais. Maxime gets the full page photo too doing a rad no-hander.

The same magazine (Jan-Feb 2008 issue) held a popularity contest called the Desillusion F#*k’in award. 25% of the votes went to Romuald “Bibi” Noirot for first place with Maxime Charveron in second with 22% of the votes. Good stuff.

Stuck at the Airport! by Mike Spinner

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

mco-spinner-airport.jpgHa ha ha, right now I am halfway going to Greenville. The weather has been pretty bad today In Florida and I guess in North Carolina as well. I am only stuck here for another hour though. I decided after I got back from down under I would take a quick trip to FL to hang out with my dad and my friends. It was awesome. The weather down there is amazing like always and I had some good sessions.

In a few days I’m taking a trip to Woodward with Ryan and a few of our friends. Should be good. I’ll try to keep ya guys posted!

P.S. I had an awesome session at this sk8 park in South Florida last night but in the middle of the sesh I had to bail on some fakie trick and fell on somebody’s bike right on his peg. I have a perfect circle on my back. It hurts!
