Guettler and Wise make finals. Mirra out with injury. Best rail trick for Wise

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007
GuettlerThe first Metro BMX Jam outside of Canada took place in Singapore last weekend. Mirraco riders Rob Wise, Dave Mirra and Ryan Guettler made the trip to the Asian heat. Unfortunately Dave had a crash in practice and had to sit out the contest. Even with the qualifying moved up to Sunday morning 8am., Dave’s ankle had not healed up enough for him to get on his Blend. With Dave Mirra out it was up to Ryan Guettler and Rob Wise to show what they’ve got. Wise with an over icepick on the flat railRob Wise had some very original tricks that nobody else did. The street rider grinded up a rail instead of down and threw a barspin in for good measure. Rob tailwhipped down ramps, did turn downs and one-footed tables over the hip and qualified in 17th. With Josh Harrington out with an injury this meant that Rob was moved up to spot 16 and got the last spot in the final. Dave Mirra fighting the painRyan Guettler had chosen his lines in practice and went big, fast and furious in his qualifying jam session. A 720 over this transition to transition box lengthwise was sick and it was followed by a no-footed cancan flair on the quarter. Ryan continued with a 630 over the hip, a wallride to tailwhip, 450 turndown, tailwhip transfer and double whipped the box. He qualified in 6th. Wise’s part of the jam session in the finals was fairly short. After a lookback he went down on a tailwhip drop and called it quits. Ryan Guettler’s riding was intense and the “all or nothing” attitude was working out for him in the finals. He started off with a huge 720 followed by the no-footed cancan flair like we’ve only seen Ryan do. He continued with a 630, a wallride to turndown, tailwhip, flair, and dabbed down on a wallride to flair. He continued to do a tailwhip transfer, lookback, a sick double tailwhip over the box and one tech move up and down the platform that included three 360-s. When it was time for last trick Ryan had his mind set on the big box. He got the most speed he possibly could and did a double backflip! Doing it over this set up was insane. Ryan finished 6th in Singapore. Best rail trick for Rob WiseAs soon as the finals were over it was time for the Oakley best rail trick. Wise’s pain had faded enough for him to join the riders who were ready for the 20 minute rail session and the Best Trick check. When time was up Rob had won the Best trick prize with an Over Ice - back over fakie barspin. We understand that you need to do some riding yourself to figure that one out but the Metro contest was filmed for Rush HD so you will be able to catch it on TV (September-ish) in the three hour long Metro show.

Little cut for RytellDave RytellSo Sunday morning I woke up at my house and there were like 10 kids riding the ramp. I got up got my bike and went outside. I got to ride for like 2 hours and slam!!! I was on the ground. Knocked my teeth back and split my knee. 8 staples and 4 stitches. But I get back on my bike in a couple of days so everything is cool. Dave Rytell

Metro BMX jam qualifiers postponed till tomorrow morning

Saturday, April 7th, 2007
Dave Mirra SingaporeRob WiseRain destroyed the qualifiers at the Metro Jam in Singapore. Three groups of 4 riders rode qualifying before it started raining. It did stop at one point but right before everything was dried up it started to rain again so even an evening session wasn’t happening. 8am tomorrow is when it continues. Ryan GuettlerNeither Rob Wise, Dave Mirra nor Ryan Guettler had to ride yet so it will be on tomorrow morning. Dave hurt his knee on the trick shown so let’s hope he’ll be in riding shape tomorrow before he flies back to race the Toyota celebrity race. Rob and Ryan are staying in Singapore to ride the PIG contest next week.

Metro BMX jam SingaporeGuteRyan Guettler, Rob Wise and Dave Mirra got some practice in today at the Metro Jam in Singapore. It is super hot and the guys are sweating like crazy but to get a feel for the ramps you need to get out there. Prelims are tomorrow after the 9am-1pm practice session. We’ll keep you posted who makes the 16-rider cut. With this strong rider field it will not be an easy task.

Woody WahlOver the hip at the skateparkWhen you’re seventeen years old and BMX is your life, you’re hella stoked when your neighbor works at Mirraco bikes. It’s even better when he asks you to help out at the Mirraco facility to build up bikes and do odd jobs left and right. Woody Wahl not only is a good guy, he rips it up on his Mirraco Blend Ltd. too.

Grumpy is enjoying his Mirraco

Grumpy abubacaGrumpy didn’t have a lot of words for us but he mentioned that you had to ride a Black Pearl Limited to appreciate it. We believe him on that one. If you own a Mirraco bike and have a rad photo of yourself doing a trick, send it in and you just might end up on the Mirraco website.
