3 Mirraco bikes in the top four of the Park finals at the Dew Tour in Florida. Not too shabby. Although Daniel Dhers is not officially on the team, his bike of choice all season has been a Mirraco and we would like to say congrats on the contest win and 2007 Park title.
Mike Spinner, 19, of Miami, Fla., completed two 1080s to finish a close second to Dhers with 94.17 points. Spinner also placed second overall in Dew Cup standings. Dave Mirra finished in fourth with a score of 90.33
Dhers, 22, executed a flawless first run that included a corked 720 turndown, one of his signature moves. He later completed a front flip over the spine, another Dhers original. The Venezuelan won with a final score of 94.67, securing the Dew Cup title for the second consecutive year.
“Man, I feel awesome right now,” Dhers said. “Last year after the win, I was like, ‘am I really gonna be able to keep up?’ I just went home, practiced hard, and dialed all my tricks. I came here and I really wanted to take it again.”

Nineteen-year-old BMX Park competitor Mike Spinner won the 2007 PlayStation Trick of the Year after fans voted that his 1080, three complete rotations, at the Vans Invitational was the best trick of the 2007 season. Spinner, of Miami, Fla., was the first athlete to ever successfully land the trick in a BMX Park competition.
“It feels amazing and this is something that I have worked so hard for,” said Spinner, who will receive $10,000 for winning the award. “I did it at one of the best and most important events of the year because I also won the event. It’s just been crazy to have all this happening in my rookie year on the Dew Tour.”

The Dirt field is so deep at the Dew AST in Orlando that it’s hard to make the finals. Pressure is on at these contests and sticking your tricks is what counts. Still, when you go on “save mode”, you’re not going to make it because the next guy might just bump you out of the top 12. Ryan Guettler is on top of things. He has been rolling the dice and it worked out in prelims scoring more than three solid points over second place finisher Dennis Enarson. Finals are on Saturday so let’s see who of the 12 riders can claim it in Orlando.
Dirt Prelims results Dew Tour Orlando:
1st Guettler, Ryan 95.67
2nd Enarson, Dennis 92.33
3rd White, Cameron 91.5
4th Marks, Joey 90.33
5th Napolitan, Anthony 90
6th Nyquist, Ryan 89.5
7th Doyle, Chris 89
8th Cooke, Allan 88
9th Parslow, Luke 87.83
10th Ellis, TJ 87.5

A win gets you 100 points in the Dew Tour. With one round to go there are two riders who could possibly take it away from last year’s Park winner Daniel Dhers. Mike Spinner is sitting in second with Ryan Nyquist in third. Dave Mirra is sitting in 6th place but the way he has been riding lately he can still move up a few spots. Mirraco’s Ryan Guettler definitely has a possibility to move up in the ranks if he rides just as well as he did in Salt Lake City where he pulled double flips, fronties, no-footed cancan flairs and 1080-s. Mike Laird is in 21st with 59 points but there are some more riders aboard a Mirraco frame in the Park class (in bold). This weekend’s Park contest is one that cannot be missed.
Current Dew Tour Park standings after four rounds:
1st Dhers, Daniel 100 100 63 55 0 318
2nd Spinner, Mike 75 33 100 49 0 257
3rd Nyquist, Ryan 49 75 49 63 0 236

Yo. How’s it going everyone? I just got back from one of the coolest things ever I’ve experienced in my ventures. I went up to Tim o’Neal’s rally school in New Hampshire and got the lowdown on how to go fast through the woods in a Subaru wrx. I met up with three dudes (which happened to race professional baja and off road trucks) in the hotel at breakfast where they informed me that we had to meet the instuctor at the Hampton Inn (which I didn’t know at the time) and follow him back to the compound which is like 600 acres in the mtns. Well, so we get started up with a little classroom briefings on safety and all that good stuff. So next, the fun is about to start. We head out to the skid pad, jump in some front wheel drive vw’s and learn some of the most important fundamentals on controlling the car the fastest through whatever god puts in front of you. I’ll tell ya what, I really never thought there was that much to it, but I was wrong. Let’s just say it’s all about left foot braking and the gas pedal. In a rear wheel drive you use the gas pedal to control the car, in a front wheel drive car you use the brake to control the car. Interesting huh.
Well, it gets even more fun when they pulled out the all-wheel drive cars for a new technique in the art of rally. The all-wheel drive car is the monster of rally and is very popular for the fastest drivers in the USA like Ken Block and Travis Pastrana. So here’s the deal, to control an all-wheel drive it’s a little bit of both of the skills we learned between the front and rear wheel drive cars. Very fun and can be a lot faster if you know what you’re doing. So, we practiced slaloms until we got them dialed and then moved onto different types of braking methods. Braking is very important for cornering in rally and so if not good with the brakes then hopefully you’re good at missing trees in the woods.
So, here comes the best part. Ken Block showed up on the last day with two of his Subrau wrx’s he rallys with and I got to drive one. First, Ken took me out and I was blown away on the speed and control he had to keep the car under control. Not to mention the confidence and commitment. Ken and Tim both took the time to explain what was important to keep the car on the road. Just for the record, I didn’t wreck it.
Thanks to all the drivers from team o’Neal that showed me the right way from the beginning. The cars are way more elaborate than I ever thought and they are fast. The driving experience was insane and I got hooked on rally.
Thanks to Subaru, Tim o’Neal, Ken Block, all the instructors that drive at team o’Neal rally school, and all the students that made the class a ton a fun.
Peace.
