Mike Spinner had a great time in Germany. The fresh Dew Tour top winner took a plane, flew to Philly, then Frankfurt and finally made it to Hamburg for a miniramp contest. It’s a long way for a contest but Mike enjoys it. This year was the first time he left the USA. He has already been to Estonia, New Zealand, France, China, Germany and also traveled all over the USA. He will get his passport all stamped up in no-time.
Mike was one of the seeded riders at the T-mobile Extreme Playgrounds contest in Pinneberg, Germany so he did not have to qualify for the main event on Sunday. The head to head contest was interesting though. Mike was lined up against Mark Koenig first, a real tech German rider who has a lot of tricks. Mark runs four pegs and a front brake where Mike runs no pegs and no front brake. This automatically makes a big difference in riding style. Spinner made it count though and eliminated Mark in the first round. Mark later got back in through a Text Message voting on site. With T-Mobile as a sponsor in Germany they had to get some hi-tech technology in there somehow. Mark voted 120 times for himself and made it through. Whatever works.
Mike Spinner was lined up against Dave Osato in the next round. Mike had no other way than to pull all his tricks in the one-minute run to have a change against miniramp tech legend like Dave Osato. Mike was up first and he did pull all his tricks which included 3-whips over the spine, a 720 over the spine, 360 one-handed x-downs over the spine and a sweet 540 manual across the platform. Osato messed up on a few too many tricks (a 720 over the spine and a tailwhip to 270 toothpick) during his contest run and Mike transfered on.
It was Ben Hennon in the semi final who beat Mike with some full throttle riding. Mike was transfered into the small final for 3rd/4th.
Mike then had to go head to head against Phil Aller for third place. Phil did fufanu’s on the back rail, no-handers over the small box, turndown 360 over the spine and a whip to icepick to name a few of his tricks. Mike did his regular run which included a double tailwhip tailtap and was beat by the Englishman for the last podium spot. It was very close though; 92.80 for Mike and 93.20 for Phil.
The event was broadcasted live on MTV an Mike got interviewed a few times, also for Freecaster.tv. and picked up his 4th place check. The search for a slice of pizza was on before heading back to the USA.
