Rebel Jam report
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007
Hundreds, if not thousands, of BMX-ers made their way to the Mellowpark in Berlin for the Rebel Jam. The miniramp - street and dirt contest welcomed many riders and had some good things lined up for them. Mirraco riders Ryan Guettler, Jean Marie Baertsch and Alessandro Barbero chose their disciplines for the weekend.
-Ryan Guettler rode Mini, Dirt and Street,
-Alessandro Barbero rode street,
-Jean-Marie Baertsch broke his foot on the miniramp in pro qualifying and was forced to watch the comp after that happened.
In miniramp Ryan qualified for the finals where he had to battle with 11 other hungry riders for one of the three awards being: Style - Creative - Hard Tricks. It’s a Rebel Jam tradition to give out awards in the final rather than a top three classification. The system didn’t work out for Ryan (this year) but he still did 720-s over the spine, no-footed flairs, and double whips over the spine.
Alessandro Barbero made the street finals in Berlin which was an accomplishment in itself because it was a large field of 90 riders who entered. When the system was switched to the Award judging it didn’t leave much hope for Alessandro who rode his runs and didn’t really concentrate on one of the awards. He still had a good time though. By the way, Alessandro Barbero missed qualifying for the Dew Action Sports Tour by 0.10 of a point.
Pro Dirt took place at the end of the contest. Because of the rain the event schedule had be juggled with, leaving Dirt with a straight final and no award type judging. This served Ryan Guettler better. Ryan went big and did a frontflip over the first set, 3-whips mid-pack and 720-s over the last set. When he pulls it all together he’ll end up near the top. From 37 pro dirt riders Ryan got 4th place for his efforts.
