“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to compete in the X Games this year. I spent it in the hospital instead, feeling like I had been hit with a baseball bat 50 times over. I got a grade 2 liver laceration during Park practice right before the X Games started. It is a huge bummer since I have been in the competition for the past 11 years.”
Dave continues: “It was the first hour of park practice. I was just starting to warm up. I jumped a big step up. I was doing that 5 or 6 times, just feeling it out—getting used to the course. One of the times I did a hang-up. I was sitting on my tire because I was leaning back so far. That stopped my bike. I was straight over the bars, and then I hit the ground. It’s like diving in a 16-foot pool without any water in it. It was definitely the gnarliest crash I’ve had on my bike. I was pretty sore from my neck to my waist. It felt like I broke all my ribs. I thought for sure I collapsed a lung. I couldn’t breath, couldn’t get any air. I was thinking, man, my chest must’ve caved in. I know my injuries and how much I can take, but this time I couldn’t even stand up.”

The clip shows Dave on the bike as well, something you won’t be seeing in real life soon as he’s healing from his lacerated liver for the next couple of weeks.

Ryan Guettler made it over to Germany this past weekend for the Rebel Jam. Sunday was rained out so there was no street and no miniramp final. This meant that the qualifying rounds on the spine mini ramp were used as the final results. Ryan happened to do a back to back run and qualified in first, giving him the win in the end. The dirt jump contest on Saturday evening was scored differently. Instead of one regular score, the riders were judged on Style, Creativity and Hard Tricks. Ryan got an award for 2nd place in the Creative part and got 4th in Hard Trick.

In the Propaganda section of the Mirraco site you can find 2 Mirraco stencils. Print them out, cut them out and get creative. After that, send us your results and we’ll post the best ones here on mirrabikeco.com. Here are some tips:
STENCILS
1) Use only flat spray paint.
2) Do not let wet paint dry up on the stencil.
3) Relax, let paint dry before each application.
4) Stencils should be held flat to the surface to be painted with a light mist of spray adhesive.
5) Failure to obey local ordinances may result in prosecution. Do not vandalize. Spray at your own risk!

Okay, we tried to keep it a secret for a few days but you guys are too smart and probably figured out that Nigel Sylvester is the newest member of the Mirraco team. Nigel spent a few days in California with Glenn Milligan filming for the Flipside video. While over at RIDE Publishing, the folks at BMX Online asked him a few questions. It starts off like this:
How was it hanging out with Dave Mirra in his hometown of Greenville, North Carolina while filming for Ride’s upcoming video, Flipside? Mirra is a cool dude. We went golfing, he made us breakfast — he made us these signature Mirra egg and cheese sandwiches. (Laughs.) Riding his warehouse with everyone else was pretty good. It was my first time riding a foam pit; that was pretty good. Jumped the hip a few times … I tried to learn backflips but I couldn’t.
