What better way to celebrate your 19th birthday by breaking your wrist? All joking aside, Nigel Sylvester indeed did break his wrist on his nineteenth B-day and is out for at least 4 weeks. After that he will continue filming for the Flipside DVD. Everyone at Mirraco wishes the New Yorker a speedy recovery. Nigel’s interview will be up on the Mirraco website shortly.

We let visitors to the Mirraco site leave comments to the articles and express their concerns. Some of you are questioning the pricing of the bikes like the person below. Find Mirraco´s reply at the bottom which explains a couple of things.
“I think you guys have priced the bikes high. There are too many other bikes on the market for less when BMX sales have taken a down swing. Poor business choice… However, 850.00 for the LTD’s would make more sense and be more in line with the current market.”
Mirraco replies:
A few words about pricing. We’re publishing prices on the site because we get so many requests to know what each bike costs. By law, in the US we can’t tell dealers what price to sell our bikes for, so if you call a local dealer the price they give you might be a little higher or a little lower than what we have listed on the site.
The goal at Mirraco is not to have the lowest priced bikes. We’re concerned about value not price; in other words what you get for the price we charge. Our plan is to build them right and charge a fair price. We’d rather be on the expensive side and sell a product we don’t have to make excuses for than sell a ton of cheap bikes at Wal-Mart prices.
The prices shown on this site are subject to change without notice. That’s because parts makers may raise their prices, we may have to change a part or supplier unexpectedly, fuel costs fluctuate, and because the US dollar’s value compared to other currencies changes daily. It sounds complicated, but we’re just trying to be up-front and keep you informed.
One last note - Prices in other countries will almost always be higher than what you see here because of expensive ocean freight, customs fees, and other costs distributors have to deal with when bikes are imported into different countries.

VitalBMX is a new website that started earlier this month. Mark Losey is the BMX content manager and Brad McDonald is the main man behind the new project. If those names sound familiar to you it’s because they used to do RIDEBMX magazine (Losey) and run the entire Transworld Media plant (McDonald). With Vital BMX they’ve got a sort of Myspace up and running for BMX riders. Companies are on it too and so is MirraCo. Sign up and become our friend. Go to vitalbmx for all the details.

Ryan Guettler finished 4th in pro dirt at the Vans invitational in Portland, Oregon. Right after the Dew contest he flew over to New Zealand to do some shows with fellow riders Colin MacKay, Scotty Cranmer and Chad Kagy. The people at the Dew AST do have some good content on their site. They asked several pros what they’re doing with their money. Here’s Guettler’s reply:
“I’m really into cars; I bought TJ Lavin’s ‘64 Lincoln Continental, so I cruise around in that on Sundays. I just bought a Harley Davidson for myself for my birthday. My roommate Joe and I are really into RC cars, so we have a bunch of those. I think I have four iPods and a laptop, and I’m about to get a G5. I also just bought a medium-format camera; I’ve been wanting that for a long time. I’ve only shot like three photos with it so far; every photo takes like ten minutes to set up. I’m really psyched on that; that’s what I’m going to spend all my money on.”

Ryan Guettler, last year’s overall winner in Park and Dirt, has been struggling a little bit lately to lay down the unbeatable runs he delivered last year, but he got just what he wanted here at stop three of the Tour. A double tailwhip, 720, 360 turndown, and a frontflip put him in the front of the pack, so he’ll be able to watch everyone else’s first runs tomorrow at the Finals. Could this be the mental boost Ryan needs to dominate once again?

We’re still building a dealer base to sell Mirraco, but in a month or two there should be about a thousand of them out there. A lot of dealers (but not all) will also be Trek dealers. Why Trek you ask? Because they’re the biggest bike company in the US, they have a great distribution network, and the dealers like ‘em. If we’re going to get Mirraco products out there and into a store near you, we need somebody who doesn’t screw around.

Dave Mirra is all over the place. He will be in Portland, Oregon for the Dew Tour but as a commentator while he’s healing up from his gnarly X-Games crash. Guettler and Cleveland will make a presence at the Vans Invitational too as is Mirraco’s art guy Sean Hargraves who will be taking some photos that you can see on the Mirraco website shortly after the comp. It won’t surprise you that Dave Mirra is all over the internet. You can stay up to date by reading the Mirra Blog on the Oxy website and while you’re there, you can also view a few clips of Dave riding his bike and keeping it smooth.
